Organizational ambidexterity, defined as the simultaneous pursuit of both exploitation and exploration,is essential for organizations'survival and thrive.Although information systems have become pervasive supporting tools in modern organizations, few of them managed to leverage these tools to balance the conflicting demands between exploration and exploitation, yet related academic research is still at an early stage. This study aims to uncover the underlying mechanisms that connect information systems implementation with organizational ambidexterity.By revealing the evolutionary ambidexterity building processes of an outstanding Chinese high-tech firm(Huawei),we found that two distinguished organizational learning processes(i.e.,strategic learning and business learning)play an important role in overcoming obstacles of system implementation and facilitate the case company to cultivate ambidexterity under different internal and external conditions. This study contributes to the ambidexterity literature by advocating information systems and learning activities as important antecedents of ambidexterity. It also offers implications for enterprise practice by identifying and summarizing specific learning activities used by the case company.
