摘　　要：The world agrees that the Olympicsmark a time when all political feudsare to be cast aside.For a long period,there was the ancient Greek legend ofthe Sacred Truce:When the Olympics wereheld,all city-states would cease warfare andcompete on the athletic field united by thegracious spirit of sportsmanship.Yet moreand more historians are telling us that theancient Olympic Games were in fact notwholly exempt from all political infiltrationand the arena would soon become a stagefor confrontation,negotiation and city-statealignment.
