摘　　要：美国怎么了?这是近年来中国知识界面临的一大问题,即便是许多做美国研究的专家也看不懂美国近期的变局和乱象。为什么美国测不准?原因在于我们头脑中的美国观是对以罗斯福新政为核心的1932年至1972年之美国"短20世纪"的理论凝炼,但美国本身却在1970年之后发生了翻天覆地的变化,也即从理论的美国到现实的美国之间的认知偏差越来越大。我们当前面临着重新理解美国的学术使命,对于研究美国史的学者来说,首先应把自1970年以来的美国视为某种秩序形成的整体,在美国通史的视野中补上"当代史"这一分期以及学术领域。其次应摆脱此前追寻美国本质的思维方式,在社会的视域内把握美国这场50年变局。What’s the matter with America?This is one of the big questions facing the Chinese intelligentsia in recent years.Why America is inscrutable?The reason is that our vision of America is embedded in the theoretical narratives of New Deal liberalism,which had been defined by FDR’s New Deal and its aftermath in the constitutional landscape,but the U.S.itself has gone through radical changes in areas of society after 1970,which means that the America in accordance with the prevailing narratives is not the same as it was.To understand the America as it is,in short,for American history scholars,they must put the American since 1970 at the forefront and take it as a new whole emerging out of piecemeal changes for the past 50 years.
