摘　　要：The seed represents an essential stage in a plant life cycle.The ability to tolerate desiccation allows seeds to survive extreme conditions that are not optimal for seed germination.Water uptake is the first step during seed germination.How water is sensed to activate downstream programs leading to seed germination remains elusive.
