摘　　要：心理空间是人们在交际或思考时构建的概念包,语言交际的默认心理空间为话语发生的现实空间。违实空间是与现实空间相反或相去甚远的心理空间。本文尝试系统地探讨英语违实空间的构建和违实事件的表达及其语义功能。研究发现,在特定语境中说话人通过词汇语法手段构建违实空间,根据事件的违实程度可分为假想空间、愿望空间、假象空间、低概率空间和强意愿空间;英语违实空间中虚拟语气对违实事件的表达体现出事件的非真实性或远离现实性,发挥了重要的构建经验和维持人际关系功能。Mental space is a constructed conceptual packet in the communication and thinking of interlocutors. The counterfactual space contradicts or deviates from the reality space. This research intends to systematically explore the construction of counterfactual spaces, expressions of counterfactual events, and the semantic functions of these expressions. The findings of this research are as follows. The counterfactual space is constructed by the speaker through English lexis and grammar in certain contexts. Counterfactual spaces, according to the counterfactual degree of the events, are further divided into fiction space, wish space, false-appearance space, low-possibility space and strong-willingness space. The subjunctive mood used to express counterfactual events in English counterfactual spaces realizes the unreality or the deviance from the reality, and brings into play its function of construing experience and interpersonal function.
