Keith McMahon is a scholar inheriting and continuing the study of Novels in Ming and Qing Dynasties in North America. His main research interest is the sex and gender culture in the novels of Ming and Qing Dynasties. His research focuses on the rare literature of Ming and Qing novels, including pornographic novels, and constructs the sexual structure of "polygamy" from the perspective of comparative literature. His construction of "polygamy" reflects his academic characteristics as one of the "hedgehog type" scholars. Its innovation has greatly inspired scholars in this field. At the same time, its formalization has also caused controversy among scholars at home and abroad. In terms of research methods,Keith McMahon is good at borrowing the off-site theory. He tries to establish the connection between the western theory and the traditional Chinese "Yili",and on this basis, constructs a theoretical model suitable for Chinese literature and culture.Although Keith McMahon’s research has been criticized as "theory first",it has broken through the research patterns of Ming and Qing novels in European and American Sinology to a certain extent, and created a new paradigm.
