The article reviews the research progress on the influence of Internet information technology on urban development at home and abroad, and combs the viewpoints of urban spatial structure, functional organization, and changes of planning concepts in the Internet era. It is found that the influence of the Internet on physical cities includes both decentralization and flattening, as well as integration and recentralization;the boundaries of urban functional areas has become blurred, and land use has become mixed and compatible; The new urban development model based on Internet information technology and its urbanization theory need to be reconstructed urgently. The Internet development has brought about an update of epistemology and methodology, which is conducive to the transformation of urban planning. Generally, the existing research still has some shortcomings such as unclear mechanism, lack of empirical evidence, unclear new demand, and undifferentiated other factors. It is necessary to establish a long-term research mechanism and construct a technical framework for theoretical deduction, empirical investigation and application practice.
