摘　　要：空间批评中对于地方之物的强调为解读美国南方作家奥康纳笔下的空间之物开辟了新的批评路径。本文从《天竺葵》《火车》两部短篇小说中的空间书写入手,探讨奥康纳如何借助物理空间的巧妙安排塑造处于20世纪上半叶转型期南方人漂泊无根的现代主体身份,进而透视奥康纳在传达现代性悖论经验时的创作美学。两部作品从不同侧面表达了奥康纳对现代性的反抗和解构,其笔下充斥物质细节的空间书写丰富了具有独特地域文学特征的美国南方书写传统。Spatial criticism sets up a new critical approach to interpreting the things in space in O’Connor’s writings by highlighting the things of place.This paper attempts to explore how O’Connor portrays by material space the modern subject identity of the Southerners in the first half of 20^(th) century in The Geranium and The Train,and further unveils the writing aesthetics of O’Connor in demonstrating the modern realities.The two fictions show O’Connor’s resistance and deconstruction of modernity and her space writing,full of detailed description of materials,diversifies the tradition of American Southern writing.
