An in-depth comparative analysis of Frankenstein and The Cleft is provided from the perspective of ecofeminism. Both works are subversive critiques of androcentrism and anthropocentrism, advocating equality and reciprocity between men and women,as well as harmony between humans and nature.Given the constraints of her time,Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, expresses her eco-feminist ideas in a subtler narrative style. On the other hand,Doris Lessing, the author of The Cleft, presents her eco-feminist thoughts based on a deeper reflection on the relationship between men and women and between man and nature, without any disguise mainly thanks to the progress of society. In today’s world, some of the reasonable ethical concepts of ecofeminism embodied in the two works may shed light on building a harmonious and sustainable human society.
