Chicano immigration fiction tends to focus on the experiences of immigrants, esp.the growth of adolescent immigrants, under the perspective of contrasting Pan-American geo-political and politico-economic power.Mexican immigrants, fascinated by the American national images, cross the border to escape from war, poverty and crime, only to find themselves degraded as undocumented trespassers,or imprisoned by class and ethnicity to become illegalized legal immigrants. The peculiar constitution of American-Mexican border and its consequent political expression challenges a steady and sustainable legality for the status of immigrants, and in turn questions the justifiability of their A-merican Dream. The narratives reflect the economic gap between the world’s superpower and its ad-jacent neighbor to the south, problematizing the motif of the American Dream.By presenting different modes of growth under the economic gaping between the two worlds, the narratives represent the growth of Mexican adolescents chained by economic and ethnic politics.By constructing counter-dis-cipline voice against illegalization, these narratives exemplify the educational power of literature.
