The widespread use of social media around the world is having a far-reaching impact on individual cross-cultural communication and adaptation. In addition to the traditional objective and subjective factors affecting acculturation, social media has become a new element.Based on the offline and online fieldwork and in-depth interviews of Vietnamese women workers who cross the border between China and Vietnam and flow to Hekou Town,Yunnan Province from 2017 to 2019,this paper investigates the impact of social media use on their acculturation. The study found that the high mobility caused by the profession and gender and the influence of the sovereign state on the border people hindered the deep contact of Vietnamese women workers with Chinese culture. The use of Chinese social media is embedded in the Vietnamese women workers’survival and development strategies such as language and cultural capital accumulation, social relationship network expansion, and increase of multicultural interactive experience, which objectively increases their participation in Chinese society, and has a positive impact on their acculturation.
