It was found that hypoxia could occur throughout the whole process of tumor development and accelerate the invasion and transfer of tumor cells. It was beneficial to improve tumor hypoxia for effectively increasing drug sensitivity and prolonging the lifetime of tumor patients. Hypoxia inducible factor(HIF)-1α is the main gene expressed in hypoxia, and is closely related to the abnormal glucose metabolism and vascular structure in tumor under the anaerobic environment. Based on the previous research results and the pathological characteristics of the tumor, we believed that the basic pathogenesis of tumor hypoxia is qi deficiency and blood stasis, and origin deficiency and superficiality excess. The idea was put forward those medications used to invigorate qi and activate blood, like Radix Astragali seu Hedysari and Rhizoma Curcumae, could be applied to improve tumor hypoxia and inhibit tumor growth and transfer, which can throw new light on further revealing the anti-tumor mechanism of medications used to invigorate qi and activate blood.
