海外英文媒体中的泉州形象--基于语料库的批评话语分析

摘　　要：采用基于语料库的批评话语分析方法,借助NOW语料库分别从词频统计、搭配词分析、索引行分析三个层面定量统计海外英文媒体涉泉报道话语的特征,并结合三维话语分析模型,从文本描述的维度进行话语分析,定量分析与定性分析相结合,考察海外英文媒体在报道中建构的泉州形象。研究发现,泉州在海外英文媒体话语中呈现了“中国东南沿海港口城市”“海上丝绸之路节点城市”等形象,海外英文媒体将泉州城市形象与中国国家形象紧密联系,泉州的国际形象也是中国对外形象的一部分。此外,研究还发现,海外英文媒体较关注城市的突发安全事故等负面事件的报道。基于发现,文章就进一步提升泉州对外形象提出了建议,在未来的传播中应注重:(1)多呈现城市历史文化元素;(2)提升泉州的国际辨识度和知名度;(3)抓住关注契机,在突发的公共危机事件中重塑城市的形象。本研究对提升泉州及其他中国城市的海外形象建构能力具有参考价值,同时对英语教学具有指导意义。This paper conducts a NOW corpus-based critical discourse analysis over the characteristics of overseas English media reports on Quanzhou,which aims to qualitatively and quantitatively explore the discursive construction of Quanzhou images.In combination of the three-dimensional framework postulated by Fairclough,the paper analyzes and describes the texts bottom up in three levels,including word frequencies,collocation and concordance lines.Three thematic features are found predominant:first,Quanzhou is presented as the images of"China's Southeastern Port City"and"node city along the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road"in English media reports;second,the city image of Quanzhou is closely linked to China's national image in reports;in addition,in reports of accidents,overseas English media reports are negative-oriented and tend to reveal the death toll and the truth behind the accident.According to the research,this paper puts forward some suggestions to further improve the international communication capability of Quanzhou,including the enrichment of historical and cultural elements in the city's image construction,the promotion of brand awareness toward Quanzhou and positive reconstruction of city image after the public crisis.This study may provide practical implications for China's cities to improve their capability of international communication and may offer educational implications for English teaching.
