近代英国汉语教学的兴起与发展(上)——从《泰晤士报》(1785-1911)说起

摘　　要：创办于1785年的《泰晤士报》是英国著名的、百科全书式的新闻媒体,其中刊登了英国19世纪以来开展汉语教学的消息。本文拟从《泰晤士报》(1785―1911)所刊登的相关报道入手,梳理并探讨伦敦大学学院、伦敦国王学院和牛津大学汉语教学兴起与发展的基本脉络,以期真实而客观地描述这三所高校所代表的近代英国汉语教学的基本面貌。Founded in 1785,The Times has been one of the most prestigious and informative press in the United Kingdom,which has covered lots of news about Chinese teaching and learning in Britain since the 18th century.Based on the reports of The Times about Chinese teaching and learning in Britain from 1785 to 1911,the paper summarizes the history of Chinese teaching at University College London,King’s College London,and Oxford University,and analyzes the rise and development of Chinese teaching and learning in this three universities,hopefully to describe objectively the real general visage of modern Chinese teaching in Britain.
