On the Spatial Writing and the Characters’Spiritual Dilemma in The Power and the Glory

摘　　要：格雷厄姆·格林的《权力与荣耀》讲述威士忌神父在宗教迫害下获得自我救赎的故事,展现了现代人的生存状态与精神困境。小说文本呈现出明显的空间维度,以加布里尔·佐伦的空间叙事理论为依托,可从地志、时空体和文本三个层面探讨其空间叙事艺术。地志空间聚焦地理位置的对立关系,凸显人物精神困境的症结所在;时空体空间着重分析人物状态与行动形成的独特效果及行动轨迹,揭示其背后精神困境的动态表征;语言的选择、线性时序以及视角结构的转化等叙事技巧使文本空间的构建更具艺术性。空间书写推动了小说的叙事进程,表达了格林对现代人精神状态的关切。Graham Greene’s The Power and the Glory tells the story of the whiskey priest’s self-redemption under religious persecution,showing the living state and spiritual dilemma of modern people.The text of this novel presents an obvious spatial dimension.Based on Gabriel Zolon’s spatial narrative theory,the spatial narrative art of this novel can be discussed from three spatial levels:topography,space-time body and text.Cartographic space focuses on the antagonistic relationship between geographical locations,highlighting the crux of the spiritual dilemma of characters;The spatial and temporal body space focuses on analyzing the unique effects and action tracks formed by the characters’states and actions,revealing the dynamic representation of the spiritual dilemma behind them.Narrative techniques such as the choice of language,linear sequence and transformation of perspective structure make the construction of text space more artistic.Spatial writing promotes the narrative process and expresses Green’s concern about the mental state of modern people.
