Under the influence of the Russian October Revolution, proletarian thought was introduced to Japan, gradually triggering proletarian political movement and the upsurge of creating proletarian literature. As the form of proletarian literary contradicts the political ideas propagated by Japanese authorities,a large number of literary writers were imprisoned. In prison,Japanese Communist Party members, such as Sano Haku and Fukuyama, issued a letter to their co-defendants to renounce their belief in communism and their communist identity. The announcement of this“turning”statement made a great impact on the Japanese literary circle,so that many proletarian writers followed suit and issued a turning statement in order to avoid punishment. The reason for the“turning”of Japanese modern proletarian writers reflects the deep-rooted culture of Japanese modern society.
