西亚考古与亚述学的诞生——以1827—1923年间《皇家亚洲学会会刊》为中心

摘　　要：西亚考古研究是《皇家亚洲学会会刊》的研究亮点之一,尤其是对亚述、巴比伦的研究,推动了亚述学的诞生,使皇家亚洲学会迎来了一次发展高峰。《会刊》的亚述学研究引领了两河流域文明发现的进程,展现了亚述学的历史和轮廓,包括:楔形文字破译对亚述历史文化的呈现,楔形文字研究对两河流域文明的发现,以及两河流域文明研究对东方文明史的建构。整体看来,西亚考古是在文字破译、文物研究中展现西亚文明发展的进程。《会刊》的西亚考古研究和文字学、语言学、民族学、历史学等结合在一起,相互推动。更重要的是,西亚考古研究者善于大胆假设,在西亚、中亚、东亚,甚至东西方之间建立联系性,试图建构东、西方文明进化的历程。Archaeological research in West Asia from 1827 to 1923 is one of the highlights in the Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society,especially the study of Assyria and Babylon,which promoted the birth of Assyriology and made the Society have a peak of its development.It led to the discovery of Mesopotamian civilization and showed the history and outline of Assyrian studies in Britain before 1923.It includes the deciphering of Cuneiform which promoted the study of Assyrian history and culture,the discovery of Mesopotamia civilization under the Cuneiform studies,the construction of Eastern civilization with the study of Mesopotamia civilization.On the whole,Archaeology in West Asia shows the development of civilization in the process of deciphering Cuneiform and study of cultural relics.The Archaeological research in West Asia in the Journal is combined with philology,linguistics,ethnology and history,which promotes each other.More importantly,Archaeologists studying West Asia are good at making bold assumptions and establishing connections between West Asia,Central Asia,East Asia and even the East and West,aiming to construct the evolution of East and West civilizations.
