摘 要:翁贝托·艾柯的大众文化研究是他开启符号学理论研究道路的重要标志。在艾柯大众文化研究的早期(20世纪60至70年代中期),符号学不仅作为方法论被用于大众媒介批评,还引发了他对“批判的文化”的相关思考。进而,艾柯对大众文化表现出不同于启示录派的坚决抵触和综合派的绝对拥护的态度。20世纪70年代末期以后,新兴的文化现象激发了艾柯对大众媒介与意识形态关系的重新思考。同时,符号学理论也促成了艾柯对文化等级区分的破除,使他呈现出更加包容的文化观。It was his research on popular culture that brought Umberto Eco into semiotic theory.At the time of his early studies of popular culture(from the 1960s to the mid-1970s),semiotics not only presented a methodology for mass media criticism but also triggered his thinking on“critical culture”.Furthermore,Eco took up an attitude that differed from both the resolute resistance of Apocalyptic intellectuals and the absolute support of Integrated intellectuals.beginning in the late 1970s,emerging cultural phenomena inspired Eco to rethink the relationship between mass media and ideology.Meanwhile,the capacity of semiotic theory to help in breaking up cultural hierarchies offered him a more inclusive cultural outlook.
