American contemporary writer Jennifer Egan's latest novel,A Visit from the Goon Squad, reveals a strong sense of loneliness, confusion, helplessness and anxiety of individuals in the struggle with life.Based on the anxiety theory of American psychologist Karen Horney,“Father of American Existential Psychology”Rollo May and German existentialist philosopher Paul Tillich,it is found that the novel reflects the general anxiety of individuals caused by the nature law of time from the aspects of self loss and confusion, the disappearance of youth and the disillusionment of dreams, and the trauma of death and the anxiety through deeply interpreting the text of A Visit from the Goon Squad, which reveals Egan's incisive observation of the spiritual situation of individuals and unique thinking and insight into life in modern society.
