摘　　要：《菊花》是斯坦贝克短篇小说的经典之作。小说女主人公伊莉莎是当时农村普通女性的一个缩影。自然环境禁锢、家庭环境束缚和社会环境羁绊使得伊莉莎饱受精神和肉体的煎熬。多重压迫之下,个人意识觉醒的伊莉莎开始了为自由逃离生存困境的尝试。伊莉莎失败了。伊莉莎渴望摆脱生存困境的努力揭示了在实现人的自由发展中人类必然经历的荒凉、灰暗、混乱时代,小说激发了人们对女性价值、精神与物质统一和人的自由发展的思考。The short story,Chrysanthemum,is one of Steinbeck′s classical masterpieces.Elisa,the heroine,was a rural microcosm of female status at that time.Elisa suffered from natural confinement,family restrainment and social trammels physically and mentally.As a result of multiple oppression,Elisa began to awake and attempted to escape away from her living predicament for freedom.Elisa failed to realize her dream,but her struggles expose the fact that humanity has been passing through a grey and desolate time of confusion.The story also arouses people to paying much more attention to women′s value,the unity of spirit and material and human free development.
