After the outbreak of the Lugouqiao Incident, with the overall invasion of China, Japan’s interest in China increased rapidly. At this time, Lu Xun, a Chinese writer famous in Japanese literary circles, became an important window for the Japanese to understand China. Driven by this kind of concern for gaining knowledge, Takeo Oda wrote the first-ever biography of Lu Xun. Not only did he portray Lu Xun as a "patriot" on the basis of negating "Anti-Japanese Democracy", but also, he endowed Japan with cultural hegemony in East Asia based on the difference of subjectivity between China and Japan in the face of Western shock. This kind of archaeology of knowledge is helpful for us to further understand the Japanese view of Lu Xun during the war and correct the existing errors in the narrative of the history of the acceptance of Lu Xun in Japan.
