摘　　要：传记在世界文明创生之际已经萌芽,其兼具史料价值和文学价值,承担着励志教育和审美认知的功能,是图书出版中需要大力发展和高度重视的部分。西方传记历经几千年的发展演变形成了成熟庞大的出版产业,文章通过对西方传记出版萌芽、发轫、成熟、停滞、高潮等历史阶段的梳理,探究西方传记出版产业之所以发达的历史原因,以期对中国传记出版的发展提供思考和借鉴。Biography had sprouted when the world civilization was created,which has both historical and literary value,and been responsible for the functions of inspirational education and aesthetic cognition.It is this part of book publishing that needs to be vigorously developed and highly valued.After thousands of years of development,Western biography has formed a mature and large-scale publishing industry.The paper reviews the historical stages of the budding,origin,maturity,stagnation,and the climax of Western biography publishing.At the same time,it also explores why the Western biography publishing industry has been highly developed to provide reference for the development of Chinese biography publication.
