The effect of chitosan, which was used as an adsorbent for adsorption and removal of tetracycline(TC)and 4-epi-tetracycline(ETC),was investigated, and the influencing factors and mechanism were discussed. The experimental results show that:The removal rate of ETC by chitosan is better than that of TC,especially in a short time; When the adsorption pH is 6.03,the adsorption removal effect is the best; The removal rate of TC and ETC by chitosan is negatively correlated with the initial concentration of pollutants, and increased with the increase of chitosan amount. The adsorption processes of TC and ETC on chitosan meet the quasi-second-order kinetic equation and the Langmuir model. The FTIR,XPS and EEM characterization results show that the primary hydroxyl group and proton-amino group in chitosan may bind to TC and ETC through hydrogen bond or electrostatic force,in addition, the spiral groove of chitosan has a strong binding ability with ETC,which may be the main reason for the better ETC adsorption on chitosan.
