译者行为批评视域下《贵生》乡土语言英译探究--基于戴乃迭译本和金介甫译本的对比考察  

A Study on the Translation of Folk Language in Guisheng Based on Translator Behavior Criticism--A Comparative Study between Gladys Yang’s and Jeffrey C.Kinkley’s Translation Versions

摘　　要：《贵生》是由沈从文创作、以湘西为背景的短篇小说,含有大量乡土语言。比较戴乃迭和金介甫的译文对乡土语言,特别是对方言和熟语的处理,分析其在“求真—务实”译者行为连续统上的差异,进而揭示出两位译者面对乡土语言采用不同处理方式的动因。研究表明,在处理乡土语言时,戴乃迭倾向于归化,直接将原文的深层意义传达,以保证译本的流畅度,可读性和务实度较高;金介甫则倾向于异化,努力将原文的语言形式与内容忠实传达,以保证译文知识的全面性和完整性,求真度较高。而两位译者处理乡土语言时的差异,则与译者角色、赞助人、翻译观等因素密切相关。Guisheng is a short story written by Shen Congwen and set in Western Hunan,which contains a lot of folk language.Gladys Yang and Jeffrey C.Kinkley both translated Guisheng in English.By comparing their translations of Guisheng’s folk language,especially their translations of dialects and idioms,and analyzing the two translators’difference in“Truth-seeking-Utility-attaining”evaluative model of continuum,the motivation of the two translators adopting different translation strategies in the face of folk language can be showed.The study of the two versions by Gladys Yang and Kinkley reveals that dealing with folk language,Gladys Yang mostly adopts domestication to convey the deep meaning of the original text directly,so as to ensure the fluency of her translation,having a higher degree of readability and utility-attaining.However,Jeffrey C.Kinkley prefers foreignization and tried to faithfully convey the language form and content of the original text at the same time in order to ensure the comprehensiveness of the knowledge in his translation,and thus his version’s degree of truth-seeking is higher.The distinctions between the two translators in dealing with folk language are closely related to factors such as translator roles,patronage,translation views and so on.
