摘　　要：Metaphors are used frequently in all sciences that adopt common words to name complex realities.So we can understand"the general doctor as a poet."The value of family medicine/general medicine lies in its distinctiveness from academic medicine.It replaced categories by"process and influences/relationships."In its scientific method sensory experience plays an important role.There are many forms of knowledge.Poetry is a source of knowledge by providing us with perspectives of reality.The poet is alone and he/she wants to begin to"express emotions,feelings or sensations."In the same way,the general practitioner who is"a clinician,not a scientist",is alone in his office,amidst the vast health/illness of his patients.General practitioner wants to grasp the deep meaning of health/disease;but that is too daunting a task.That is why his descriptions of diseases are clinical cases;his attempt to achieve a statistical picture of diseases is"blank."But,despite that,his/her results are not empty;quite the contrary,they can be savoured,so to speak;as a poetry.
