Objective:To explore the correlation between essential hypertension and vascular compression in the ventrolateral medulla oblongata. Methods:A total of 83 hypertensive patients were selected,73 had signs of vascular compression, and 10 had no signs.Among the 65 nonhypertensive patients,33 had signs of vascular compression, and 32 had no signs. All subjects underwent 3D MRI thin-section scans, and grouped analysis was performed on the compression of the ventrolateral medulla oblongata. Results:The incidence of vascular compression in the hypertensive group had a significant difference with that in the nonhypertensive group(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference between unilateral and bilateral vascular compression in two groups(P>0.05),there was no significant difference between left and right vascular compression(P>0.05).Conclusions:Vascular compression in the ventrolateral medulla oblongata is more common in hypertensive patients, but there is no obvious laterality of vascular compression signs.
