摘　　要：“斯坦贝克问题”长期困扰学术界并影响到学者对斯坦贝克其人其作的合理评价。有论者认为,造成该问题的原因在于斯坦贝克的文笔生涯存在三大反讽,分别涉及其批评声誉、作品的大众接受度以及政治倾向。从这三个方面入手,结合斯坦贝克的文学实践讨论与之相关的一些理论问题并对“斯坦贝克问题”做出解读,将有助于学术界对斯坦贝克其人其作的理解以及斯坦贝克研究的健康发展。“The Steinbeck Question”has puzzled the academics for a long time and affected reasonable evaluations of John Steinbeck and his works.According to some critic,the reason why there is such a question lies in three ironies in Steinbeck’s writing career,involving his critical reputation,popularity and politics respectively.Starting from the ironies,this paper intends to discuss some relevant theoretic considerations and interpret“the Steinbeck Question”through reviewing his literary practice,so as to be helpful for the understanding of Steinbeck and his works as well as the sound development of Steinbeck studies.
