The immunomodulatory molecule V-set and immunoglobulin domain-containing protein 4(VSIG4) is a type Ⅰ transmembrane protein specifically expressed in B7 family-related proteins of macrophages. It can not only inhibit the proliferation and activation of T cells, but also act as a complement receptor to remove complement C3-coated pathogens or autoantigens. Recent studies have shown that VSIG4, as an oncogene, not only plays a role in cancer, but also plays an important role in a variety of inflammatory diseases such as experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis, inflammatory enteritis, hepatitis and arthritis. In order to understand the role and mechanism of VSIG4 in inflammatory diseases more systematically, this paper summarizes the molecular mechanisms or pathways involved in VSIG4 in inflammatory diseases, in order to provide scientific basis for the methods and means of VSIG4 in the treatment of inflammatory diseases, and further provide data support for the clinical application of VSIG4 in inflammatory diseases.
