官利制度与同人存款:近代中国股份制出版企业资本的混杂现代性

摘　　要：现代性是指自18世纪中期启蒙运动以来迄今的社会整体性质,既包括社会结构的现代性如工业主义、市场经济、科层制等,也包括社会精神的现代性如自由、民主、理性化、世俗化、多元主义等。股份制企业是一种典型的社会结构维度的现代性组织,其面向社会公众募集资本,采取工业化生产程序。由于股份制是西方经济社会背景下的产物,近代中国股份制出版企业的资本具有两方面的混杂现代性:其一,官利制度是债权收益和股权收益的混杂体;其二,同人存款是明清商业传统与科学管理的混杂体。出版业的现代性仍是一项未完成的设计,近代股份制出版企业和当代股份制出版企业间存在着因果链条,即现代性的本土化。Modernity refers to the overall nature of society since the Enlightenment in the mid-18th century.It includes not only the modernity of social structure such as industrialism,market economy,bureaucracy,etc.,but also the modernity of social spirit such as freedom,democracy,rationality,pluralism,and etc.A joint-stock enterprise is a typical modern organization with a social structure dimension,it raises capital from the public and adopts industrial production procedures.Since the joint-stock institution was a product of the western economic and social background,the capital of modern Chinese joint-stock publishing companies had two aspects of mixed modernity:firstly,the contract-interests institution was a mixture of debt and equity returns;secondly,a mixture of Ming and Qing business traditions and scientific management.The modernity of the publishing was still an unfinished design.There existed a causal chain between modern joint-stock publishing companies and contemporary joint-stock publishing companies,that is,the localization of modernity.
