摘 要:英国文论家爱德华·摩根·福斯特认为狄更斯笔下的人物形象大多是扁平的,却有一种不可思议的人性深度感。《双城记》是狄更斯最重要的代表作之一,它诞生在作者遭遇情感危机的人生苦痛阶段,流露出作者精神世界的痛苦挣扎,小说中的人物在更深层次上与圣经人物原型隐秘相合,映射出创作主体潜意识的想象性宣泄,作品中多重人物性格和复杂的人物关系,其实质是虚构了一个“受难”“复活”乃至“牺牲”的原型故事来寻求解脱人生困境之途。Edward Morgan Forster, an English famous literary theorist, once thought that Dickens’ characters were mostly flat characters, but still had an incredible sense of depth of humanity. As one of the most important representative works of Dickens, a tale of two cities was completed at the most special stage in the author’s life. How does the novel reveal the author’s ambivalent and complex spiritual world with its ingenious Biblical archetypes? Through several typical biblical characters, the novel secretly reveals the author’s spiritual struggle, and its deep exploration of the complexity of human nature is rooted in the unconscious and imaginative venting of the author. In fact, the author tries to find the way out of the dilemma of life by making up an archetypal story of “suffering”, “resurrection”and “sacrifice”.
