The hydrogen embrittlement of 2.25Cr 1Mo alloy steel and FV520B martensitic precipitation-hardening stainless steel was studied using electrochemical hydrogen charging, slow strain rate tension test and SEM fracture surface topography observation. The results showed that these two kinds of steel exhibited a similar hydrogen resistance ability, the shrinkage ratio of the cross section for 2.25Cr-1Mo and FV520B samples after charging showed the same declining trend, and at the same time the effect of hydrogen on notch tensile strength was also close between 2.25Cr-1Mo and FV520B,specifically the reduction percent of the tensile strength for the hydrogen charging samples was 9.2%and 8.6%separately.SEM showed that the fracture surface exhibited similar dimple fracture characteristics for these two kinds of steels, and the fracture pattern did not change after hydrogen charging for them.It can be seen that the hydrogen resistance ability was at the same level for the two kinds of steels, and 2.25Cr-1Mo steel could be used as an alternative material for the turbo compressors worked in the hydrogen condition just as FV520B.
