摘　　要：袁昌英的文化选择与中国的社会结构、文化形态的现代转换紧密相关。袁昌英因学缘和共同的政治理想而跻身于“英美派”留学生群体。这个群体深受自由主义的影响,追求接近人之本质的“和谐”状态。袁昌英将中国乡村朴素的泛神论思想与西学结合,以科学精神求证个体存在与宇宙的关系,探求心灵自由和解放途径。西学的价值系统虽已进入她的视野,但是其成长过程中亲和有序的家庭环境和浸透儒家思想的湖湘文化传统,促使她在中西文化汇聚中选取了一种新的价值尺度。她的文学指向并不是与历史同构的“开启民智”,而是试图以理性精神平息这狂飙突进的现代化进程中灼烧、毁灭的能量。Changying Yuan's cultural selection is closely related to the modern transformation of China's social structure and cultural ideology.Changying Yuan rode into the"Anglo-American"group of international students because of her academic affiliation and their common political ideals.Heavily influenced by liberalism,this group pursued a"harmony"state of approaching the essence of the human beings.Changying Yuan combined China's rustic pantheistic beliefs with Western learning,used the scientific spirit and principles to verify the relationship between individual existence and the universe and to explore spiritual freedom and the way to liberation.Although the Western value system had attracted her attention,the affiliative and orderly family environments and Huxiang cultural tradition infiltrated with Confucianism in her growing process prompted her to choose a new value scale in the convergence of Chinese and Western cultures.Her literary orientation is not"enlightening the people",which is isomorphic with history,but an attempt to calm the burning and destructive energy in the radical progress of modernization with rational spirit.
