The study of Chinese poetry in Japan began almost at the same time as the composition of Chinese poetry in Japan. Developing through the Dynasty Era and the Gozan Era, it was not until the Edo period that it truly entered the modern stage of research. After the Meiji Restoration, although the composition of Chinese poetry in Japan was inexorably declining, the study of it bloomed. The study of it in Chinese academic circles started far behind its Japanese counterpart, and it learned a lot from the latter’s achievements. If the composition of Chinese poetry in Japan is the spread of ancient Chinese poetry to Japan, then the study of Chinese poetry shows a reverse process, and the evolutions of both sides are very clear. This reflects the two-way circulation and interaction of cultural exchanges from the perspective of literary creation and academic research. Looking forward to the upcoming development trend of Chinese poetry research in Japan, we should devote ourselves to all-round promotion, in-depth observation and multi-dimensional discussion.
