摘　　要：英语中类似“We smeared mud on the wall.”的句子往往存在歧义。为解释这类V+NP+PP特殊结构的歧义动因,本研究对原子理论进行修补,旨在提升其解释力。具体做法是将事件结构、概念结构与句法结构三者有机结合,从而增加动词与其他成分的语义互动。研究表明,在V+NP+PP结构中,若动词与介词短语发生互动,致使动词的影响力作用于介词短语,名词位置发生移动,该结构表现为致使位移事件,而若该结构中的动词语义受到制约,未与介词短语发生互动,则其构成普通的VP结构。Semantic ambiguity exists in the English V+NP+PP structure like“We smeared mud on the wall.”In order to elucidate the motivation of the semantic ambiguity,the present study intends to amend the Atom Theory by combining the event structure,the conceptual structure and the syntactic structure.In so doing,a factor of interactivity between verb and other elements can be added to the theory to promote its explanatory power.According to the amended Atom Theory,semantic ambiguity in the English V + NP + PP special structure is motivated by the interaction between the verb and the PP phrase.Specifically,if the verb in the V+NP+PP structure interacts with and influences the PP phrase,and thus causes the positional change of the noun,the structure represents the cause-motion event.On the contrary,if the verb is restrained semantically and does not interact with the PP phrase,the structure constitutes only a common VP structure.
