转译“大屋顶”的可能性及其挑战——华西协合大学校园建筑设计的跨文化形式表达

摘　　要：聚焦20世纪早期教会大学建筑活动中的“中国化”思潮必然要面对的“转译”问题,以华西协合大学校园建筑为例,简要回溯西方建筑师参与校园规划和建筑设计的过程、方法和结果,特别关注其具有显著中国特点的“大屋顶”之选材、结构、构造、细部装饰与施工工艺,指出以西式砖混结构为主要技术载体转译中国式“大屋顶”存在诸多挑战,而为应对挑战而展开的思考与尝试定义了建造文化从混合走向融合的互动过程。Focusing on "translation" during the architectural "Sinicization" in Christian universities in China in the early 20th century,this paper uses West China Union University to offer a retrospective analysis of the processes,methods and results of campus planning and architectural design in which Western architects were involved.Paying special attention to material selection,structure,construction,ornamentation and craftsmanship of the big Chinese roof,it explicates the various challenges brought up by translating the "Chinese roof" with western masonry structure.It is dealing with such challenges that contributes to defining the interactive process of construction culture from hybridization to integration.
