摘　　要：阿南塔穆尔蒂是印度当代最为著名的作家之一,也是坎纳达语新文学运动最重要的代表性作家之一。他的长篇小说代表作《一个婆罗门的葬礼》是一部现代印度文学的经典之作。这部小说虽然曾因抨击婆罗门教的腐朽与虚伪而引起激烈争议,却最终由于将印度传统文化与现代性融为一体而成为一部成功小说的样本,从而展示了一种强烈的启蒙意义并获得了世界性影响。他的短篇小说集《太阳的牡马及其他故事》是他短篇小说中的精品,有力地证明了作家是印度现代派文学的一名圣手。U.R.Ananthamurthy was one of India’s most celebrated writers in contemporary times and also one of the most important representatives of the Navya movement in Kannada literature.A classic of modern Indian literature,Samskara:A Rite for a Dead Man,which once caused heated controversies beacause of its sharp criticism of some decaying tradition of Brahmanism,is of enduring enlightening significance and influential in the world as a sample of a successful novel combining India’s religous culture and modernity.Stallion of the Sun and Other Stories is an anthology of U.R.Ananthamurthy’s short stories par excellence,clearly proving the writer a leading exponent of the Modernist school in India.
