戊戌维新时期湖南学会的登场、职能与转设

摘　　要：受近代戊戌维新运动影响,中国大地上“开民智”活动与社会教育活动骤起,其中湖南地区因士气大昌而使众多学会纷纷登场,成立的学会数量居全国首位。湖南学会的兴起掺杂着复杂的社会背景因素,与维新派“开民智”活动互为表里,这使学会不仅要承担维新派所期冀的政党、议会之用,还肩负兴新学的时代重任。学会发展与学堂发展紧密相关,部分学堂就是由学会转设而成的,这反映了学会不仅在“开民智”和传播西方新思想、新知识等方面发挥了重要作用,也在一定程度上推动了湖南乃至全国教育的现代化转型。Influenced by the Reform Movement of 1898,the activities of“opening up people′s wisdom”and social education sprang up all over China.Among them,many associations emerged in Hunan because of the“great prosperity of morale”,and the number of established associations ranked first in China.The rise of Hunan associations was mixed with the complicated social back-ground factors,which was in line with the activities of reformists to“open up people′s wisdom”.The associations not only assumed the function of political party and parliament expected by reformists,but also shouldered the important task of the era of new learn-ing.The development of associations was closely related to the development of schools,and some schools were set up by the associa-tions.It was reflected that the associations not only played an important role in“opening up people′s wisdom”and disseminating new Western ideas and knowledge,but also promoted the modernization transformation of education in Hunan and even the whole country to a certain extent.
