In the novel Tomorrow,by taking the nurture and continuation of life as main observation thread,Swift expresses concern about the issue of bioethics in the context of the constant development of biological science in post-war Britain from the application of“contraceptive”,“artificial insemination”and“genetic engineering”.To begin with, the novel shows how the popularity of oral contraceptives deconstructs traditional concept of marriage and love, unfolding worries about individualistic ethics'replacement of“the ethical family”,and through refutation of radical feminism,it reveals the enduring desire of human beings to reproduce.Furthermore, the novel indicates that while“artificial insemination”serves as a remedy for people's infertility,it also brings new ethical dilemma and only by relying on the redemption of family affection can blood barriers be overcome. Finally, the writer examines modern people’s indifference of life values and loss of curiosity about nature when they pursue utilitarian goals, warning potential crisis caused by genetic engineering to human existence and emphasizing practical significance of life's intrinsic transcendence and creativity.
