摘　　要：Whenever Nature publishes a paper about something,it becomes the focus of attention.Recently Shi G et al.(2021)brought the outer integument of angiosperms to the focus of the spotlight.This job claimed to have made great progress in the origin of angiosperms,as the outer integument was assumed as a feature idiosyncratic of angiosperms(Soltis DE,2021).However,such an assumption per se is spurious.Furthermore,the existence of outer integument in much older age(the Palaeozoic)makes re-invention of outer integument surplus.This information cautions us in evaluating the implications of Shi G et al.(2021).
