The influence of soil dilatation on surface deformation during shield tunneling in shallow strata is studied.Firstly, the finite difference model is established and the non-correlation flow criterion is used to obtain the main area of surface deformation when the soil around the tunnel is dilated. Then the dimensionless parameter is used to modify the traditional settlement empirical formula. The maximum surface subsidence decreases with the increase of dilatancy coefficient. The difference between the maximum surface settlement obtained by the correlated flow criterion and the non-correlated flow criterion increases with the increase of the support force. With the increase of the buried depth ratio, the influence of soil dilatation on the surface settlement gradually decreases. The correction coefficient and dilatancy coefficient η show good agreement in predicting surface deformation.Sand dilatation has great influence on shallow buried shield tunneling,so the dilatation angle of soil should be considered when analyzing surface deformation.
