In recent years, microbial induced calcium-carbonate precipitation(MICP)technology has become an emerging method for soil reinforcement.Based on the microbial principle, the MICP reinforcement technology has significant environmental protection advantages for solving various problems in geotechnical engineering. Thus,it has received the attention of many professionals, and related research has been carried out.In this paper, the research progress on the principle and influencing factors of microbial-induced calcium carbonate precipitation is introduced in detail, and its specific application in geotechnical engineering is reviewed.Microbial-induced calcium carbonate precipitation is a complex microbial chemical process. The amount of calcium carbonate precipitate and the rate of precipitation are affected by many factors, such as carbon source, temperature and pH,reinforcement method, fiber parameters, fiber length,etc..MICP has good mobility, generates cementing calcium carbonate precipitation, reduces soil porosity, reduces permeability, and has a wide application prospect in seepage prevention and sealing fracture repair, soil reinforcement and other aspects.
