摘　　要：《五英亩处女地》作为伊丽莎白·乔利的第一部短篇小说集中的故事,故事展现了乔利倾心的主题:土地。文章从后殖民主义理论的视角对故事中英国移民霍奇茨先生、澳大利亚母亲以及弟弟的行为及语言进行分析,揭示在后殖民文化背景下欧洲中心主义在澳洲土地上的不合时宜。并得出英国移民在澳洲大陆上不管是购地还是通婚只是融入澳洲社会的权宜之计,真正地融入需要在心理上放低自己强势的姿态接受弱势文化。Five Acre Virgin is from Elizabeth Jolley’s first short story collection.The story shows Jolley’s preferring theme:land.This paper analyzes the behavior and language of the British immigrant Mr.Hodgetts,Australian mother and brother in the story from the perspective of post-colonial theory,and reveals the inappropriateness of Eurocentrism in the Australian land under the background of post-colonial culture.It is concluded that whether British immigrants buy land or intermarry on the Australian mainland is only an expedient to integrate into the Australian society,which means that they need to lower their attitude psychologically and accept the weak culture.
