摘  要:近代教育家、沪江大学校长刘湛恩立足于中国传统美德和儒家传统道德教育,结合近代爱国主义和家国情怀,吸纳西方私德思想和公民自治理念,形成一套独具特色的德育理论。刘湛恩提倡学生积极服务社会,对学生进行现代独立人格教育和现代公民教育,他希望培养具有爱国精神和优秀品德的现代公民,他的德育思想和德育实践推动了沪江大学由教会学校向现代大学的转型,形成沪江“大家庭”的校园文化氛围和良好的精神风貌。在其执掌下,沪江大学表现出踏实勤勉、诚信友善,倡导爱国主义和社会服务意识的优良学风和校风,并培养了大量德智体全面发展的优秀人才。Liu Zhanen, a famous educator in modern times, advocated the ideal “saving the nation through education”. During his tenure as President of University of Shanghai, he proposed that students should actively serve the society, and be educated with modern independent personality and citizenship. He hoped to cultivate modern and patriotic citizens with excellent characters. Based on the spirit of Chinese traditional culture and the requirements of western modern civic moral education, Liu Zhanen actively shaped the campus culture of “big family” in University of Shanghai. His thought of moral education had created a good style of study and spirit for University of Shanghai, promoted the transformation of University of Shanghai from missionary school to modern university, and trained a large number of excellent talents.
