摘　　要：现有研究对陈汉章在中央大学任职历程的研述过于简略,存在叙事不明、考索失当等问题。重新整理考订陈汉章遗留信函可知,他在史学系主任任上进行的聘教工作一波三折,他不得已采取了以退为进的方法才将史学系推入正轨。这一系列操作一方面展示出陈汉章非凡的人事智慧,另一方面从侧面论证了中央大学能成为全国最高学府并非仅靠政治和地缘因素,更赖全校上下戮力同心。与此同时,柳诒徵联合校长张乃燕力促陈汉章兼修《江苏通志》,但此举间接造成系内中史乏人,陈汉章遂荐长子陈庆麒任职。依据陈训慈的回忆及其他相关史料的佐证,中央大学因史学系学生和系主任雷海宗对陈庆麒的授课水平大为不满而拒绝延聘;陈汉章因荐举程序不当而担负连带责任,于1930年夏黯然离场,表露出大师光环下的玷缺之面。The existing research on Chen Hanzhang’s career in Central University falls short of providing a comprehensive discussion,alongside problems such as unclear narration,improper examination and so on.After sorting out and reviewing the letters left by Chen Hanzhang,it was found that his employment and teaching work was full of twists and turns when he was the head of the history department.Therefore,Chen Hanzhang had to make comprises to push the history department on the right track.All of that showed Chen’s extraordinary personnel wisdom and also demonstrated indirectly that it was the concerted efforts of the whole university,apart from political and geographical factors,that made the Central University a successful institution of higher learning in the country.At the same time,urged by Liu Yizheng and the principal Zhang Naiyan,Chen Hanzhang concurrently revised General Annals of Jiangsu,which,however,inadvertently resulted in a staff shortage in the history department.Thus Chen Hanzhang recommended his eldest son Chen Qingqi to take over.According to Chen Xunci’s memories and other relevant historical materials,the pupils and Lei Haizong refused to hire Chen Qingqi because they were dissatisfied with Chen Qingqi’s teaching ability.Chen Hanzhang was jointly and severally liable for improper recommendation procedures and made a miserable departure in the summer of 1930,showing the tarnish under the aura of the master.
