摘　　要：乔伊斯·卡罗尔·欧茨1969年出版的长篇小说《他们》被誉为最能代表欧茨艺术成就的一部作品。小说主人公莫琳在精神成长方面的失败使其成长历程成为反成长小说的艺术典型。本文探讨反成长小说的概念及特征,从叙事空间和叙事视角两方面来阐明“美国梦”和父权制文化意识形态在莫琳成长过程中对其性格的塑造,以及对其成长的戕害,并分析造成莫琳成长悲剧的家庭原因和社会原因。Joyce Carol Oates's novel them,published in 1969,was acclaimed as the best representation of Oates's artistic achievements.The main character Maureen's failure in spiritual growth renders the novel a typical example of anti-Bildungsroman.This essay examines the definition and characteristics of anti-Bildungsroman,and illustrates the impact of the American Dream and patriarchal ideology in the shaping of Maureen's character as well as their damage to Maureen's growth.In the process,family and social factors will be analyzed to reveal the causes of Maureen's tragedy.
