摘　　要：约翰·恩迪科特是贯穿纳撒尼尔·霍桑创作生涯的重要角色之一。在霍桑的历史罗曼司与半虚构类作品中,恩迪科特这一形象获得了极大关注,呈现出了丰富的人物形象特征,亦对理解霍桑的历史观念具有重要意义。本论文在美国清教史学、民族史学、爱国主义史学三大历史叙事传统的烛照下,对恩迪科特这一人物进行再阐释,意图厘清这一人物所代表的霍桑的历史叙事模式与历史观念,以及他对美国式的历史主义的独特看法。霍桑通过书写恩迪科特这一清教领袖的形象,不仅质疑了美国史学传统中的英雄史学与乐观主义史学,并且构建出了属于自己的一套历史叙事体系。In Nathaniel Hawthorne's career,John Endicott is one of his most important characters.In Hawthorne's historical romance and semi-fictional works,Endicott has not only received enough attention,but presented numerous characteristics.Endicott also plays a crucial role in understanding Hawthorne's idea of history.Under the light of American Puritanism historiography,Nationalism historiography and Patriotism historiography tradition,this study will re-interpret Endicott in the context of the American historical narrative tradition to understand Hawthorne's historical narrative modes,his idea of history,and his unique perspective of an Americanized Historicism.Through the image of Endicott,a Puritan leader,Hawthorne not only queries the heroic,optimism and patriotism tradition in the American historiography,but builds his own historical narrative system.
