Faulkner is one of the most influential writers in the history of American literature and the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1949.As I Lay Dying is a novel of Faulkner, which always revolves around the axial character Addie Bundren, and tells about the“bitter experience”of the Bundrens, farmers in the southern United States, who transported the coffin containing Eddie's corpse back to her hometown for burial in order to fulfill Eddie's last wish.As a new theory of literary spatial criticism, literary cartography contains rich academic implications, which can provide a new perspective for understanding literary works and an important reference for understanding the artistic logic behind writers'creation. From the perspective of literary cartography, this paper intends to explore the mutual promotion mechanism between literature and map in As I Lay Dying, and to interpret the mutual promotion role of literature and map in the development of novel stories and the expression of the subject from three aspects:the metaphorical role of map in literature, the narrative function of map in literary works, and the control and stipulation of literature on map,in order to explore the mystery of Faulkner's literary creation from the perspective of literary cartography.
