摘 要:奥姆斯特德在被誉为“美国现代景观之父”的同时,其作为社会评论家和知识分子的光辉被遮蔽了,以致两者之间的联系及其可能引发的讨论被忽略。首先论述清教精神、新英格兰先验论等方面内容如何成为奥氏思想渊源中的重要构成,再分析他写作中高频出现的“文明”“社区”“品味”三个关键词的意涵,并分别以芝加哥南公园、芝加哥河畔城郊住区和波士顿富兰克林公园为例,阐释这些关键词的意涵与他设计实践之间的关联。以此将奥氏的景观规划设计理念接合到19世纪的美国思想史中进行分析,并在历史研究的视角下建构设计与思想两者之间的关联。Frederick Law Olmsted is well known as“the father of modern American landscape architecture”,while his glory as a prominent social critic is obscured, which makes us ignore the connection between the two and the intellectual discussion that this connection points to. This paper begins from the exploration of how the puritan spirit and New England Transcendentalism etc. became important component of Olmsted’s intellectual foundation,and analyzes three keywords“civilization”“community”“taste”frequently appeared in his writing with cases of South Park in Chicago, Suburban Village of Riverside in Chicago and Franklin Park in Boston, thus explaining the relationship between those keywords and his design practice. In this way, Olmsted’s landscape planning and design ideas are integrated into the history of American thought in the 19th century, and the relationship between design and thought are also constructed from the perspective of historical research.
