Heathcliff’s revenge in Wuthering Heights can be interpreted as an allegory of colonial resistance from the postcolonial perspective. As a metaphor for the colonized “other”, Heathcliff embodies the traces of the author’s resistance to the colonial culture, whose failure also represents the author’s reflection on colonial resistance. As a British novelist of Irish descent, Emily Bronte represents her contradictory state of wandering between two cultures and as well as her attempts to re-locate her identity through her novel-writing.
