摘　　要：The Awakening written by Kate Chopin depicts Edna Pontellier and her struggle between her increasingly unorthodox views on femininity and sexual desires with the prevailing social attitudes under the American South circumstance.This paper will deal with the linguistic representation of the female character Edna in the novel,mainly through a discourse analyzing methodology based on systemic functional linguistics.
